Training (MSc & PhD)
The principles of the successful training programs were i) identifying strongest universities in Africa with appropriate programs, ii) establishing grant support, iii) recruiting top-level fellows, iv) providing curriculum oversight, v) providing thesis research oversight and vi) reintegrating students into public and private seed institutions.
RESULTS:

- 653 scientists trained, with some receiving grants to develop and released varieties (currently in-charge of research in NARS in most countries)
- Trained scientists playing a key role in variety turnover to help farmers have access to resilient varieties.
- 152 technicians in NARS trained.
- Established a seed training institute (SEMIs) at the University of Nairobi
